Reds, Saints advance to consolation semis
The Denis Morris Reds rebounded from an upset loss in the opening round to defeat the E.L. Crossley Cyclone 67-36 in a consolation round quarter-final game Tuesday at the 61st Annual Standard High School Basketball Tournament.
DM coach Wade Pychel was happy to see his charges turn things around after being upset by the Laura Secord Patriots on their home court Monday.泭
It was great to see more positive things happening, especially offensively, Pychel said. Yesterday I thought offensively we werent really clicking. We were running our stuff, but we missed some layups and open shots werent falling for us and then泭 generally our self-esteem got down and we were never really able to get back in the game.
To fully make the comeback today was great to see. The boys rallied around each other again in our home gym and got a win and move on.
Pychel said it was huge for the Reds to not dwell on the loss.
Were kicking off league play next week so we want to be able go into that with a little bit of a boost, maybe try to win three out of four this week and have some big confidence going into those league games.
Travis Palmer led the Reds with 23, including five three-pointers.
We just wanted to play as a team, work together and not get frustrated, Palmer said.泭
Palmer said the Reds, who were ranked fourth, could have won their opener.
That was a winnable game, he said.
